Today marks the end of my internship, and I couldn’t think of a better way to close this chapter than by sharing a summary of what I’ve achieved over the past few months.

When I first joined WPCredits, my mission was clear: I wanted to bridge the gap between complex technical processes and community contribution.

The Journey

My internship began with a deep dive into the WordPress ecosystem. The first phase was all about onboarding: I spent my initial weeks completing specialized courses and getting familiar with the internal workings of the community. This training was essential—it gave me the foundational knowledge to understand not just how we do things, but why we do them.

Once I mastered the basics, I shifted my focus to one of the most vital areas of our ecosystem: accessibility, I worked closely with my mentor, who provided essential documentation and key links that served as my starting point..

The Mission: Closing the Gap

We identified that our subtitling guidelines were becoming outdated, which acted as a barrier for new volunteers. I wanted to empower the community by helping updating the handbook.

Final Reflections

This internship has been a masterclass in Open Source culture. From the initial onboarding courses to publishing handbook documentation, I’ve learned that:

  • Accessibility is a core value: Ensuring everyone can access our content is what makes our community truly global.
  • Documentation is a living thing: It needs constant care to remain useful.

I am incredibly grateful to WPCredits and the WordPress community for this opportunity. While my internship officially ends today, the guides and workflows I’ve built are now in the hands of the community.

To my mentor:

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your guidance over the past few months.

I especially appreciated the structured onboarding and the documentation you provided at the start. Having those links and resources made it much easier for me to understand the ecosystem and find where I could add the most value.

Your trust in letting me lead the update of the WordPress.tv Handbook was a huge boost to my confidence. Thank you for being available to answer my questions. It’s been a privilege learning from you at WPCredits.

Until we meet again, keep contributing and keep sharing!
