I’m currently working on updating the “How to add captions or subtitles to a WordPress.tv video” handbook.

Working on this update has made me realize that maintaining these guides is about much more than just fixing typos. It’s about:

Accessibility as a priority: By updating the captions and subtitles guide, I’m helping ensure that WordPress.tv content remains inclusive. If the instructions to add subtitles are clear, more videos will get them, making the content accessible to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

Reducing friction: When a fellow contributor wants to help, the last thing they need is a guide that points to buttons that no longer exist. Updated handbooks save time and prevent frustration.

Scaling knowledge: A handbook is a mentor that doesn’t sleep. By documenting the current processes, we ensure that knowledge isn’t trapped in the heads of a few veteran contributors, but is available to anyone, anywhere in the world.

Contributing to the WordPress documentation is a way of saying “thank you” to the community while making the path a little smoother for the next person who steps up to help.
